marathon by audrey-101 marathon by audrey-101
very basic and quick composite of mark iv aboard the marathon based on craig mullins work.

i must admit i anxiously await the day that the marathon community and or bungie contemplate moving forward on a slightly darker rendition of this incredible story.

and please excuse the incorrect composition of armor. we do what we do

Looks amazing, the only problem being is that Marathon MJOLNIR Mk. IV in this pictures looks awfully similar to the Halo MJOLNIR Mk. VI.

Still favorite-worthy, though.

You mean there were TWO MJOLNIRs?

Actually in Marathon there are known to be 10 military mjolnirs.

Well, actually, the main character of Marathon is a MJOLNIR IV Cyborg, and the armor in Halo is a reference to that. My bad.

The suit in Marathon and the suit in Halo share the same name, yes.

I think the armor was intended to look that way.

Well, it would have been nice if it had been closer to the armor in Marathon, rather than Halo.

I really like this. :) It reminds me of the "Security Officer" variant figure McFarlane's producing in their next run of Halo figures. :D

I think that master chief is the marathon cyborg. Notice how at the end of halo 3, MC finds this huge structure with a marathon symbol on it... like that's not too obvious...

It would make sense. He was recalled into active duty from suspended animation. Could be that he was the Main Character in the Marathon titles, and is called whenever big trouble arrives.

Looove the Wallpaper BTW, great job audrey-101!

Only like 2 years late to reply to this but...

Halo is set in 2531-2553 and Marathon is set in 2794, so the likelihood that MC is Marathon Man is about... 0.

Ironically the humans of Halo (despite being 250 years younger) are far more advanced technologically than the humans of Marathon. The humans of Halo have spread across the galaxy to other solar systems whilst the humans of Marathon are apparently only as far as setting up moon bases orbiting Mars and are all called BOB, and their dialogue is limited to "They're everywhere!"... and they even seem to lack the awareness that you're even there (to the point where it's creepy).

Little less than half a year late to reply to this but...

That doesn't actually preclude the Security Guard/Cyborg (He's not called the cyborg directly in the games, except by an AI that was falling apart at the seams). Infinity's whole plot revolves around a good chunk of Time Travel, and more importantly, he very definitely existed about 200 years before the Marathon ever launched. Though, the information backing this is screwed up due to Leela messing with the historical records.

Nonetheless, you still have the quote from the end of Infinity, that's in the picture, the very definite note that he IS the protagonist from Pathways into Darkness (The first game opens up in one of the last areas of PiD), and the 2nd message from the first terminal in Kill Your Television in the second game. The series is fond of mindscrew, though, so for all we know, it was Leela who sent that message, rather than the protagonist at another point in time.

...also, it's BoB, not BOB. It's a derogatory "Born on Board." The active crew had never seen a planet up close in their lives, which is why they were so panicky. They're actually useful allies in the later two games, providing backup at key points.

To the Artist, by the way: This is my new wallpaper.

Oh, and, the PiD thing at the start wasn't in the original game.

The game opening up in the PiD ending zone is not part of the game and is actually nothing more than a nod to the original FPS game by Bungie. Nevertheless, the argument was not for PiD-Marathon tie-in but Halo-Marathon, which is definitely not the case. There was a quote by a Bungie employee (and for the life of me I don't want to spend hours trying to find it again) where they very clearly said "They're not related" (paraphrasing).

Also both BoB and BOB are accurate, if you wanted to be particularly critical of grammar it's "B.O.B".

*** In Halo: Reach there are BOB Elites, and they are referred to as BOBs not BoBs. ***

Regardless, the story to Marathon is definitely far from complete, the Marathon trilogy only contains fragments of the timeline and, as you said, most of that is screwed up by AI.
